In partnership with the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet, author Terry Iwanski will be holding a book signing session for his book “The Headhunter’s Granddaughter” at the 2026 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB) on April 18, 2026 – Day 1 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Pacific Time. Festivalgoers can meet the author at booth 225 during the fair, which will take place at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, from April 18 to 19, 2026.
Set deep in the jungles of Borneo, Malaysia, “The Headhunter’s Granddaughter” follows Pedo, a young girl born into a struggling family with twelve children. Unable to care for her, her parents give her to her father’s brother, a cruel man who forces her into child labor. From an early age, Pedo works long days tapping rubber trees to earn money, living a life filled with hardship and uncertainty.
Despite a harsh childhood, Pedo finds small moments of care in her village. Her grandfather, the feared “Headhunter,” ensures her survival and defends the village fiercely during the Japanese invasion in WWII.
Life remains hard—she wears only a worn white smock, with no shoes or underwear—but Pedo endures. Years later, a simple smile to a passing middle-aged American man at a salon sparks a new chapter of opportunity and unexpected adventure.
Through hardship, war, and resilience, Pedo’s story presents a moving portrait of strength, hope, and the human spirit.
