After partnering last spring with the exhibition "Georges Mathieu - gesture, speed, movement", co-produced by the Monnaie de Paris and the Centre Pompidou, Air France is reissuing its iconic advertising posters designed by the artist in 1967. An initial collection of six posters is available from today at shopping.airfrance.com and at the Air France pop-up store at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in Paris.
Air France is reissuing an initial selection of advertising posters designed by Georges Mathieu, to give everyone a chance to purchase these posters that have marked the airline’s history. Six destinations are featured: France, Great Britain, Canada, the United States, South America and Mexico. Posters featuring other destinations will be available in 2026.
These unique reproductions are the result of over six months of meticulous work, a collaboration between teams at Air France, the Georges Mathieu Committee, and artisan printers, screen printers and colour experts. Many skilled experts came together to reproduce the quality and appearance of the original posters, using modern printing techniques.
Released as part of the Air France Legend collection, these posters are now available at shopping.airfrance.com. They are also available at the Oneart stand at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in Paris, next to the Air France pop-up store open especially for the festive season. These elegant posters make ideal gifts for all generations.
Air France Legend - Georges Mathieu’s posters for Air France
In 1966, Air France commissioned Georges Mathieu to create a series of advertising posters, which were intended to promote the main destinations on its vast global network to the public, including France, of course, but also Egypt, the United States, Japan and India. To enable everyone to identify the destinations represented at a glance, Mathieu designed artwork that embodied the very essence of each country. Fifteen original posters were published the following year in 1967, illustrating the extent of the artist’s influence beyond painting. An essential part of Air France’s history, this series of posters was one of the first examples of art in advertising.
For over 90 years, posters have played a central role in the world of Air France, representing above all a desire to travel and dreams of faraway lands. With a heritage of over 1,500 works created by leading illustrators throughout the years, the company has one of the largest collections in the world.
