Vox is expanding its membership program with the launch of Vox on Patreon, a new destination designed to bring audiences even closer to the journalism that makes Vox distinctive across video, audio, and text. On Patreon, Vox members can now access exclusive videos, live newsroom conversations, new community features, and ad-free experiences that deepen engagement and provide a window into how Vox’s stories are made. Vox will build vibrant, participatory communities around key franchises, from podcasts like Today, Explained and Unexplainable to video journalism, creating spaces for audiences to engage directly with Vox’s journalists and one another around the work they’re most passionate about.

“Our audience comes to Vox for clarity, and for the insight and tools that help them to live a better life,” said Swati Sharma, Vox editor-in-chief and publisher. “The support of our members helps to make that work possible, and launching on Patreon allows us to build an even closer relationship with our most engaged supporters and offer new ways to experience Vox’s journalism.”

“Patreon is where multimedia storytellers thrive: from journalists to podcasters to video creators,” said Leticia Hirabayashi, senior director of creator acquisition at Patreon. “Vox’s approach to journalism embodies that creative energy, and this launch marks an exciting step in our investment in enterprise-level partnerships. With fans on Patreon already deeply engaged in podcasts and video—two of our highest-earning categories—Vox’s membership feels like a natural extension of the vibrant community of journalists and storytellers who have been building their audiences on Patreon for years.”

As part of this launch, Vox is introducing two original Patreon-exclusive video series:

  • The Docket — Each episode explains how a major Supreme Court decision could alter the fabric of American life, exploring the human impact and the societal shifts behind landmark cases. The first episode, available now, examines how a case out of Louisiana could reshape the Voting Rights Act and political representation for a generation.
  • What’s Working — A solutions-focused series that highlights policies improving lives in communities across the country, from child care and housing to transportation and local governance.

In addition to these new series, Vox Members will gain access to monthly livestreams hosted by Vox journalists and editors as well as curated, ad-free video collections from the Vox archives, and enjoy behind-the-scenes “reporter extras” that show how Vox stories come together. Members can also participate in community chats that offer behind-the-scenes insights into Vox’s editorial process and ongoing reporting.

“Through Patreon, we’ll meet audiences where they already are — and are accustomed to paying to support journalists and creators — and expand the reach of Vox’s approachable, rigorous, and intelligent journalism,” said Priyanka Arya, Vox Media’s SVP, head of consumer revenue.

This Patreon builds on existing benefits for Vox members, including:

  • Unlimited access to Vox.com
  • Ad-free episodes of Vox’s award-winning podcasts including Today, Explained, Unexplainable, and The Gray Area.
  • A members-only newsletter and The Highlight, a monthly digital magazine.

Existing Vox Members will automatically receive one year of Patreon access at no additional cost. Members can connect their accounts by visiting vox.com/patreon-redeem. Prospective members can join the Vox community at patreon.com/vox to unlock these new benefits and support Vox’s mission of helping people understand the news that matters most.

About Vox

When Vox was founded in 2014, it was animated by a simple observation: The media did a good job of reporting the news and commenting on it, but there was a disconnect between that work and the audience truly understanding why something happened. Vox started as — and remains — an organization dedicated to addressing that gap, which not only persists but has grown.

We are proud to have popularized explanatory journalism in many forms, across many mediums. Our work has been used to educate people everywhere, from elementary schools to college classrooms to vaccination sites in Taiwan to footnotes in congressional memos.
