David Sequeira’s “The Machismo and Marianismo Tango” Examines Gender Ideals at Frankfurt Book Fair 2025
A groundbreaking study of Hispanic cultural dynamics and their impact on women’s lives will be shared with free copies at the world’s largest publishing event.
“The Machismo and Marianismo Tango” by Dr. David Sequeira will be featured at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, held 15–19 October at Messe Frankfurt. Visitors can find the book at Hall 5.1, Stand D86, where The Maple Staple and Inks & Bindings are co-presenting more than 150 titles from independent authors and giving away free copies of select works, including Sequeira’s.
The book explores two complementary cultural ideals: machismo, the male archetype rooted in Hispanic tradition, and marianismo, its female counterpart. Sequeira not only traces their historical and social foundations but also examines their consequences, particularly the lasting psychological scars endured by women who have survived abuse. By incorporating research on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder alongside cultural analysis, he offers both a scholarly and deeply human perspective on a global issue that continues to affect families and communities today.
Sequeira’s life and career reflect the global scope of his work. Born in Kenya to Goan parents, he studied in India and Switzerland before moving to the United States in 1975, where he earned advanced degrees in theology, psychology, and clinical practice. His early missionary work in Brazil exposed him to the realities of machismo culture firsthand, shaping a lifelong commitment to understanding and addressing its consequences. Today, as a practicing clinical psychologist in Southern California, he brings both academic rigor and clinical insight to his writing.
The Maple Staple, in its second year at Frankfurt and co-exhibiting for the first time with U.S.-based partner Inks & Bindings, will showcase Sequeira’s work alongside memoirs, devotionals, poetry, and social studies. Visitors can also explore giveaways, author highlights, and an audiobook listening area at their stand.
“The Machismo and Marianismo Tango” will be exhibited at Hall 5.1, Stand D86 during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025. Visitors are invited to stop by and pick up a free copy, while global readers can access the book through Amazon and other major retailers.
