Karen Boxell’s “Tuckaway Retreat” Brings Adventure, Mystery, and Friendship to Frankfurt Book Fair 2025

“Tuckaway Retreat” by Karen Boxell will be exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, held 15–19 October at Messe Frankfurt. The novel will be on display at Hall 5.1, Stand D86, where The Maple Staple and Inks & Bindings are presenting more than 150 titles from independent authors across genres.

A Finalist in the 19th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards for the Friendship Category, “Tuckaway Retreat” captures the exhilaration and peril of growing up through the lens of summer adventure.

Set in the mountains of Vermont, the story follows eight teens, four boys and four girls, who arrive at summer camp expecting friendship, challenges, and fun. They find all of that and more: river rapids to conquer, lakes to dive into, and skills to uncover. But when danger intrudes in the form of a villain, a cunning sidekick, and even a protective mother bear, the teens are thrust into a fight for safety and solidarity. A shocking kidnapping propels them into a gripping adventure where resilience, quick thinking, and the power of teamwork are put to the test.

Boxell, a retired teacher who spent decades guiding immigrant high school students and teaching abroad, draws inspiration from her own love of children and the outdoors. Having camped throughout the northeast with her husband, she channels her appreciation for nature into stories that celebrate curiosity, bravery, and the bonds forged through shared experience.

The Maple Staple, returning for its second year at Frankfurt and co-exhibiting for the first time with U.S.-based partner Inks & Bindings, will feature “Tuckaway Retreat” alongside children’s adventures, memoirs, poetry, and wellness titles. Visitors can also enjoy book spotlights, giveaways, and a free audiobook listening corner at their stand.

“Tuckaway Retreat” will be exhibited at Hall 5.1, Stand D86 during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025. Visitors are invited to dive into the adventure at the stand, while readers worldwide can find the book through Barnes & Noble and other major retailers.
