Harold Toliver’s “Star-Crossed Planet” Bridges Science and Storytelling at Frankfurt Book Fair 2025
A collection of fiction infused with natural history and cultural reflection will be available with free copies at the world’s most influential book event.
“Star-Crossed Planet” by Harold Toliver will be exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, taking place 15–19 October at Messe Frankfurt. The book will be on display at Hall 5.1, Stand D86, where The Maple Staple and Inks & Bindings are co-presenting and offering free copies of select works, including Toliver’s.
The collection follows in the wake of Toliver’s non-fiction works Mythic Worlds and Scanning and Sizing the Universe, bringing their themes into a fictional realm. Through episodic narratives, “Star-Crossed Planet” situates characters against the immense backdrop of natural history; its powers, extremes, and harsh realities on the only known habitable world. At once imaginative and intellectually rigorous, the stories demonstrate how scientific awareness reshapes the myths and perspectives of human culture.
Toliver, a retired professor of English, American, and Comparative Literature at the University of California, has devoted his career to bridging the humanities and sciences. He has taught at Johns Hopkins, UCLA, Ohio State University, and the University of Washington, publishing influential works such as The Past That Poets Make and Animate Illusions. In recent years, he has turned to interdisciplinary studies that explore how natural history’s vast scale reframes cultural narratives.
The Maple Staple, returning for its second year at Frankfurt and co-exhibiting with U.S.-based Inks & Bindings for the first time, will spotlight Toliver’s book alongside a diverse collection spanning memoirs, poetry, wellness, and speculative fiction. Visitors will also find giveaways, author highlights, and a free audiobook listening area at their stand.
“Star-Crossed Planet” will be exhibited at Hall 5.1, Stand D86 during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025. Visitors are encouraged to pick up a free copy at the stand, while global readers can access the book through Amazon and other major retailers.
