Margaret Carpenter Arnett’s Inspiring Introductory Guide to Art Therapy Praised by Reviewers for Incredible Art and Testimonies
For over 40 years, Margaret Carpenter Annett has been sought out as an expert art therapist among communities in Washington state. She came out with a book that documents over 100 pieces from the people she has worked with, as well as their testimony on how the process helped in their self-exploration. Reviews have come in commending the work for both its numerous testimonies and helpful introduction to one process of art therapy.
“Reading these passages while viewing the more than 100 colorful images they describe make an inspiring case that this type of therapy could benefit artists and non-artists alike.” – Kirkus Reviews
Originally born and educated in England and trained there as a nurse, Margaret Carpenter Arnett has come a long way in her journey as an art therapist. This came about when her passion for the arts just could not keep itself from intermingling with her nursing background. For sixteen years she facilitated an art therapy group for cancer patients at the University of Washington Medical Center and trained other art therapists.
For over 40 years, she has pursued this calling and established a great reputation for both her artwork and her services in using art to help heal the mind.
She published a compilation of over 100 pieces that were made by people whom she had helped using art therapy with meditation. Its title is simply “The Art of the Inner Journey: Symbol as Healing Agent,” and Margaret intended this compilation to serve as an introductory guide to this particular aspect of art as therapy. Many reviews have since praised the book for its solid testimonies about the practice, and the helpful knowledge it shares with those who have yet to try.
Kirkus Reviews says the book: “is packed with detailed activities that art therapists can easily use in their own practices; such readers will feel confident they can lead a class with the information they glean from this book…”
Another review from BlueInk Review adds that it is “a clearly organized, practical guide to using the visual results of guided imagery via painting, drawing, collage, crayon, even dance and drama to understand the self, repair broken relationships, and heal from emotional trauma…”
Overall, curious readers and first-time students to art therapy will find plenty of resources in Margaret’s work that will help them get started on their own journey.
