Adelpha De Guzman’s Zodiac Fantasy Adventure “Axel” Returns to Exhibit at This Year’s Frankfurt Book Fair
Last year, Philippine author Adelpha DeGuzman exhibited her first fantasy novel, “Axel: The Mysterious Tapestry.” The book is an ambitious combination of portal fantasy with a cultural subtext in between. The exhibit was part of her ongoing dedication to be a distinct immigrant voice among fantasy writers on the world stage. This year, she will be exhibiting again and hopes that her work will serve as a model for other overseas Filipinos with budding literary talents.
“My middle schooler really enjoyed this book. I’m excited to read it too!”
As one of the largest book fairs in the world, the Frankfurt Book Fair – also known as Frankfurt Buchmesse – is the place that both readers and publishers flock to in search of more diverse storytellers giving their own take on popular genres.
These include writers like Adelpha DeGuzman, a migrant Filipino who worked for years as an accountant but still desired to follow her father’s literary footsteps. It was this dedication that continuously motivates her to practice writing, as well as research ideas that would spark the imagination of her readers.
The result of her hard work is her own self-published fantasy novel titled “Axel: The Mysterious Tapestry.” It is a story that combines DeGuzman’s own love for the genre, as well as a distinct style that was influenced by many other Filipino writers. It tells the story of a young man named Axel, who finds himself transported by the titular tapestry to a kingdom comprised of twelve zodiac-themed tribes.
And as in any portal fantasy, Axel is this world’s chosen one who must brave trials to retrieve each tribe’s powerful magical gem lest an encroaching evil destroy the entire world. It is a classic tale of a young man mustering his courage, despite all his fears.
DeGuzman had already exhibited her work at the Frankfurt Buchmesse before and looks forward to once again showcasing it to new visitors. As more authors from around the world are finding ways to achieve their dream of telling their story, she hopes that “Axel” will inspire a new generation of global Filipinos to do the same.
Those who would like to check out “Axel: The Mysterious Tapestry” during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 can find it at the exhibit of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing services firm, at stand 6.0 A12. The book fair will run from October 15 to 19, 2025, at Messe Frankfurt, Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, Frankfurt, Germany.
The book is available on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
