Author’s Biography:
Theodore “Ted” Shorter, Jr. is a distinguished U.S. Army veteran and author. He is a recipient of the 2025 International Book of the Year Award in the category of memoir and personal reflections. After completing his honorable enlistment as an infantry soldier in the US Army in 1988, he attended the University of Illinois at Chicago majoring in Criminal Justice. Upon receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in May of 1992, Shorter became a Physical Security Specialist for the Department of Homeland Security. His responsibilities as a security specialist were to protect government owned and leased buildings ensuring that tenant agencies operations were not compromised and people were safe from threats of terrorism in the Great Lakes Region.
