Cognichip Welcomes Amin Saberi, Stanford Professor and Director of Language, Data, and Reasoning Lab, as AI Science Advisor
The ACM Test of Time Award recipient brings deep theoretical expertise, applied insights to Company’s Artificial Chip Intelligence (ACI®) technology innovation
Cognichip, the company pioneering Artificial Chip Intelligence (ACI®), announced the addition of Professor Amin Saberi, Ph.D., to its team of world-class scientists. Amin is a globally recognized leader in algorithms and applications with a track record of translating deep theoretical research into real-world systems. Amin, Director of Stanford’s Language, Data, and Reasoning Lab, Co-Director of Stanford’s Center on Computational Market Design, and a Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford, will support Cognichip’s mission to build a more intelligent, adaptable, and scalable foundation for next-generation chip design.
Most Influential Papers and Contributions
Professor Saberi has authored over 170 academic publications and holds an h-index of 60, a mark of his enduring influence in computer science and applied mathematics. His work has been cited over 4,000 times and has garnered prestigious accolades, including back-to-back ACM Conference on Economics and Computation (EC) Test of Time Awards in 2024 and 2025, as well as Best Paper Awards at the IEEE Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science (FOCS), ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (SODA), and Conference on Web and Internet Economics (WINE).
His recent research spans algorithms, algorithmic reasoning, graph neural networks, and reinforcement learning with a focus on applying these methods to the design and optimization of highly complex systems. His work has directly shaped how AI design and optimization techniques are used in real-world applications. His list of contributions and publications are available at https://www.stanford.edu/~saberi.
Professor Saberi is also the founding CEO of NovoEd, an online learning company that licenses technology developed in his Stanford lab, adopted by institutions such as Stanford, UC Berkeley, and the University of Michigan. He previously held a postdoctoral position at Microsoft and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech.
“Amin brings a rare blend of deep theoretical expertise and applied insight across algorithms, optimization, and foundational models – all of which are core to what we’re building at Cognichip,” said Faraj Aalaei, CEO and Founder of Cognichip. “In academia and entrepreneurship, Amin’s work has shaped how complex systems are designed and scaled, and his perspective will be integral as we push the boundaries of what’s possible with our physics-informed AI foundation model.”
Today, chip development is slow, costly, and inaccessible to all but the most prominent players, often taking 3-5 years and over $200M to go from concept to production. Cognichip’s first-of-its-kind, physics-informed foundation model enables Artificial Chip Intelligence – ACI®, flipping the traditional waterfall model of chip design into a dynamic, compute-centric workflow, and enabling faster iteration, broader access, and greater adaptability in how chips are built and brought to market.
At Cognichip, Amin will advise on the development and scalability of ACI®’s algorithmic core, helping shape how the company’s physics-informed foundation model can adapt across diverse chip design tasks, drawing from his decades of research in optimization and complex systems.
