Richard Young Set to Showcase Guide for Those Recently Diagnosed with Diabetes, Coming Soon To A Book Festival at Printers Row, Chicago

Richard Young has been many things: a pilot, military photographer, film technician, and more. However, none of these have been as profound as being a diabetes survivor. The experience had left him with a deep-seated desire to help those who would be hit by the shocking news of their diagnosis. Hence, he published a guide specifically for just that titled “Understanding Diabetes Type 2.” He will be exhibiting the book at a book festival at Printers Row, Chicago.

“Having recently been diagnosed with Type 2 and coming from a family of diabetics, I found this book very informative. Getting the news from your doctor can be a bit of a shock and leave you forgetting to ask important questions or getting more detail on the condition itself. It was nice to have a couple more recipes in the back especially for breakfast. When you are used to eating sugary cereals most of your life, it can be hard to know what is going to be a healthy choice.” - A. Presotto

Most people who would meet Richard Young wouldn’t know he was an advocate for diabetes awareness. He spent over 20 years in video and filmmaking at Raytheon Aircraft. His background was in electronic communication and not healthcare. He had even learned how to fly at the young age of nineteen!

But for all the adventure and excitement he sought in life, the experience that had the most profound impact on him was the day he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Like many who had received such a diagnosis, much of the technical language used by doctors was difficult to grasp. Piling on top of that was the emotional anxiety from having such a dangerous condition and not knowing the first thing to do. But thanks to support and his own determination and willingness to learn, he followed through on the diets and lifestyle changes that ensured he reversed his condition.

It was from the desire to help those who will have to undergo the same trials that he wrote and published “Understanding Diabetes Type 2: For the Newly Diagnosed.”

Using a conversational, if at times witty, writing style, “Understanding Diabetes Type 2” aims to hit right where its target readers are. It was written with the guidance of experts Young consulted, and many of the recipes and exercise routines are actionable from the day a diagnosis is received.

As part of his plan to widen the book’s reach, Young has arranged to have it exhibited at book events. The self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet will display the book at a book fest at Printers Row, which will take place on September 6-7, 2025, at South Dearborn Street, from Ida B. Wells to Polk Street, Chicago. Visit the ReadersMagnet exhibit at to check out the book display.
