Mary Dessein’s Empowering and Encouraging Essay Collection Set to Appear at Chicago Book Fair Exhibit
Mary Dessein has been writing ever since she was in 2nd grade. Today, she is both an accomplished writer and musician and has realized her talent for turning simple experiences into uplifting reflections on life. That is why she has decided to collect several essays into a book titled, “When I Was a Rock Star,” which will soon be exhibited at an upcoming book festival at Printers Row, Chicago. Through it, she hopes she can inspire others to rediscover the essence of being in the moment.
“I began this book while on a 10-hour flight to Europe. I read the entire book and LOVED it! Upon returning home, I have found myself re-reading one chapter a day! There is so much content in the book that I needed to take it at a slower pace and just soak in the peace, serenity and insight. I bought this book just for me and I have enjoyed it, and will continue to!” - M. Doxey
Mary Dessein considers herself a lot of things. She’s a lifelong writer, a professional storyteller, a musician, and also a mother. She was also the co-founder of the Literary Lights writers organization as well as a host on the Global Griot radio program back in the 90s.
And through it all, she has discovered the beauty of enjoying life’s simple joys. However, she now wants to do more than just be appreciative. She hopes to inspire the same perspective in readers everywhere.
It is for that reason that she published her debut essay collection “When I Was a Rock Star: Thoughts on Being Present in the World.” Drawing on a lifetime of performance and publication, she blends reflective observation with warm and uplifting insight. She has arranged to have the book exhibit at an upcoming book fest at Printers Row, Chicago.
In these essays, she shares multiple examples of what it means to deeply experience a moment. Whether it’s gazing at the birds in the sky, or getting ready to perform in front of a large audience, she shares deeper thoughts on the wondrousness of it all. Her writing is the sort that gently encourages readers to listen deeply to the soundtrack of everyday life.
Those who would like to get a good look at “When I Was a Rock Star: Thoughts on Being Present in the World” will soon be able to find it at a book festival at Printers Row, Chicago on September 6-7, 2025. It will be under the exhibit of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.
On the other hand, those who would like to get a copy can also find it on Amazon. To read more about Mary Dessein’s thoughts (as well as upcoming publications), visit her website at https://marydessein.com/.
