The Novel “Full Circle” by Claudette Hyacinth McLennon Uncovers the High Cost of Silence in a Divided Town
When justice is buried under privilege and fear, one mother must fight against the odds to give her daughter a voice. “Full Circle” exposes the devastating ripple effects of small-town corruption and collective silence
“Evil knows no bounds. It stalks and it preys! Mankind is desperately wicked, but time will take care of them. They will wither and fade my darling. They robbed you of your name and innocence, but you will rise. Don’t cry baby. It is unfair but you will live to look them in the face strong and unapologetic. God will see us through this.”
In her gripping novel “Full Circle,” Claudette Hyacinth McLennon delivers a bold and emotionally charged story that forces readers to confront the darkness hidden behind power, privilege, and community loyalty.
Set in Port Charlotte, Florida, “Full Circle” follows Clarice Boundbrooke, a divorcee and mother of two who sought a peaceful life after relocating from Mobile, Alabama. But her world shatters when her 18-year-old daughter Maryanne is brutally raped by four high school football players—sons of the town’s most influential men. While Maryanne battles physical injuries and emotional trauma, Clarice faces a greater horror: a town that would rather protect its reputation than its children.
Despite the attackers openly bragging about their actions, the only witness—a local drunk—is silenced by a hit-and-run just before the trial. DNA evidence mysteriously vanishes, and witnesses stay silent out of fear. The town is split, and Clarice finds herself standing alone against an unrelenting wall of power, corruption, and denial.
Claudette Hyacinth McLennon, born in St. Mary, Jamaica, and now a retired public servant from New York, weaves this powerful tale with an authenticity rooted in empathy, justice, and the resilience of women. Known for her poetry and storytelling, McLennon draws on a rich background in education and public service to highlight the unspoken pain and fierce courage of survivors.
“Full Circle” is more than fiction. It’s a testament to the endurance of truth and a mother’s unyielding love in the face of injustice. It challenges readers to question their silence and ask: What would parents do if the system failed their child?
