Mental Health Author Linsey Willis Set to Raise Bipolar Awareness with Heartfelt Memoir “Be There”

Linsey Willis’ passion for excellence and dedication to developing leadership qualities in others have served people in many ways, including: police personnel who have been promoted to management ranks throughout the US; college students who have received stipends from her book royalty fund (established at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business); and court cases where she served as an expert witness have been settled.

Her commitment to and desire to help people harness their innate abilities is relevant to her sympathy and awareness of the reality of those who have mental health challenges (e.g., using poor judgment, lack of planning, poor people skills).

The title of the book is “Be There: My Lived Experience with My Sister’s Bipolar Disorder,” serves both as a memoir and a guide to living with family suffering from bipolar disorder.

In Willis’ case, it was her sister Betsy.

“Be There” offers a very comprehensive example of what family life is like when someone in it is diagnosed with BPD. Using simple conversational terms, Willis explains what it took to care for her sister when she suffered episodes as well as details about the condition that the public needs to know. She also doesn’t pull any punches about highlighting America’s inadequate systems for helping people with mental health disorders.

At the same time, however, she writes the book from a deeply emotional place that shows how her bonds with her sister constantly drove her to ‘be there’ during such tough moments.

Linsey Willis has been actively working on increasing the book’s exposure, both online and at various publishing events. She is hopeful that the book will become a best seller and if so, she plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to charities.
