Matthew Swan’s Heartfelt Story of Reconciling Neighbors and Rediscovering the Simple Essence of Life Set for Exhibit at Chicago’s PRLF
All manners of stories will be exhibited at Chicago’s Printers Row Lit Fest, including those by authors whose sole purpose is to share uplifting messages about life. That is certainly the goal of Matthew Swan. His book, “The Parable of the Coal,” tells the story of two nigh-irreconcilable neighbors whose relationship changes when one side makes a fateful decision to be the bigger person. Swan has a love for writing and speaking and hopes his story makes a positive impact like with his talks.
“This is a wonderful short story with a great message. I read it while waiting for a school concert to start...not the best place as the message was very powerful and emotional. I would recommend it to anyone. It reminds us of what it means to be a good neighbor.” – Trena H. Peckham, Amazon review
Based in Las Vegas, Matthew Swan is known as a featured speaker at various business and tax seminars, as well as his work with his certified public accounting firm.
In recent years, however, he has begun using another approach to sharing positive messages outside of just his usual speaking gigs. He has also become a published author with a book titled “The Parable of the Coal.”
Swan has always had a love for writing, having also dabbled in poetry and songwriting. However, he hopes that his book will not just entertain readers but also share more inspiring messages.
The story of “The Parable of the Coal” tells of two feuding neighbors. On one side is Steve and his young family. On the other side is Edgar, a much older man who has created an air of tension and animosity between the two households for years.
One day, however, Steve decides to be the bigger person and begins a process of reaching out to his estranged neighbor. The result is the discovery of a long-held pain and the miracle of going outside one’s own front door to heal wounds in others that not many people notice.
Swan has been working to have “The Parable of the Coal” showcased at various publishing fairs to expand its readership. It is even scheduled to be exhibited by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the upcoming Frankfurt Book Fair 2025. The book trade fair is slated for October 15-19, 2025, at Messe Frankfurt, Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, Frankfurt, Germany.
