Great Granddad-Turned-Children’s Author Bob Combs Set to Display First Published Passion Project
Bob Combs, an evangelist of the Gospel Barn, is a great-grandfather to a large family with many grandkids. These same children have been a source of great inspiration to him in the art of storytelling. It is what encouraged him to publish his very first children’s book based on one particularly fun story that took off to really wild places. He has even arranged to exhibit the book at Chicago’s premier book fair, which will take place on September 6-7, 2025.

These include even recent children’s book authors like Bob Combs, whose work is purely inspired by the time spent telling tales to his many grandkids (and great-grandkids).
The title of his book is Sneaky Pete’s Big Adventure, a story about a little boy named Pete whose ingenuity meets its match during a most unpredictable journey. It starts with Pete making a trip to the pawnshop and overhearing a troubling scheme to steal a priceless gold coin. But as he digs deeper into the mystery, he finds himself in all sorts of odd places and situations. These include a haunted mansion, encounters with robots, talking animals in the sewers, and many more!
The sheer zaniness of Sneaky Pete’s Big Adventure all came about just from Combs kicking off these stories and the great reception they’ve had from his grandkids. Having long retired, Combs has been spending most of his days as an evangelist at the Gospel Barn and focusing on faith and family time.
The children’s book is simply one of his new ways to spread the love of a good story and hopes that others will find Sneaky Pete’s twisty misadventures as inspiration to write their own children’s books. He has even arranged a few book signing sessions as well as displays at upcoming book fairs.

Robert Combs is a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of 22 total; cellist, black belt, and Evangelist at the Gospel Barn. He and his amazing wife share six kids who produced all those grandkids. They also share a strong faith in Jesus and are working together for His Glory. Sneaky Pete’s Big Adventure is his debut book, inspired by his grandkids love of the story he rattled off one night from his imagination closet! Robert also works from home in Kentucky, retired from a real-world job. He enjoys preaching from the Gospel Barn, serving others, and getting on the floor to play with the grandkids and chasing some of them around on his daughters farm.
