ReadersMagnet, the leading self-publishing and book marketing company for independent authors, will host a book signing session for author James M. Cavanaugh at the 2025 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB), which will take place at the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles, USA. Cavanaugh will sign copies of his book, To Protect Those Unable To Protect Themselves: Saving The Unborn, on April 26,2025 AT 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at booth 225.

The LATFOB is one of the most significant literary festivals in the country. It brings together storytellers, artists, and publishers to celebrate the beauty of literature, arts, and culture. Each year, the festival attracts approximately 160,000 people of all ages from Southern California and around the globe. Now in its 30th year, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books will occur on April 26-27, 2025.

A central theme of To Protect Those Unable To Protect Themselves is the author’s belief that society must offer love, understanding, and concern equally for both the pregnant woman and the defenseless baby in her womb. The book opens by describing the activities of both parties during the nine months of pregnancy. Cavanaugh then explores various perspectives on when the unborn should be recognized a human being. Additionally, the book provides explanations of different forms of birth control and abortion.

The author traces the history of abortion within American law, placing special emphasis on Roe V. Wade and Dobbs V Jackson. In Cavanaugh’s view, America’s history of fluctuating legal mechanisms and political decision-making has led to a complicated and unpredictable situation. While the nation debates these issues, countless precious and defenseless unborn lives are lost. To address this crisis, the author suggests a new approach that includes several provisions to help women understand the life-changing implications of their decisions regarding the unborn child and raise awareness of alternative arrangements available for the newborn.

Jim was born in Pittsburgh. He spent his early childhood and teen years living in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and New Jersey. In 1963, he received his Bachelor of Science from St. Peters’ College (now University), a Jesuit college in Jersey City, New Jersey.

After graduating and attending the United States Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Jim was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He expected only four years in uniform. However, he served for thirty years, retiring as a Colonel in 1993.

His military career included service in the Vietnam War and later in Wyoming as a Minuteman Missile Combat Crew Commander and Senior Instructor, commander of a unit in Africa, and various assignments in the U.S. and Europe. While serving, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wyoming and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma.

After retiring, Jim and his wife Linda moved to Arizona, where he unexpectedly became active in local government, serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission as a City Councilman and Mayor. Under his leadership, the city was recognized as an All-American City. He also owned and managed a real estate brokerage and a specialty foods company.

Just six years ago, Jim and Linda moved to Arkansas. It was in Arkansas that he decided to attempt authorship of a book on abortion and devoted his attention to the protection of the unborn. “To Protect Those Unable to Protect Themselves: Saving the Unborn” is the product of his determination and inspiration.
