Inspirational Christian Author Tish Barnhardt All Set for a Book Signing Session at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2025

For a lot of churches in America, the seat of their resident first lady is one of the highest honors that a Christian woman could aspire to. But in the experience of Tish Barnhardt, such lofty positions come with both responsibilities and the burden of covetous eyes.

In fact, the precarious situations she has seen were so numerous and personal that she thought it better synthesize them into compelling work of contemporary Christian fiction. Its title is “So You Want To Be A First Lady?”

The story follows Carol Smith, who had celebrated two years of marriage to her husband Leroy. However, things changed when Leroy went to establish his own ministry at Lakeside Baptist Church. This instantly made Carol the first lady of the new congregation, and she was unsure about what that may entail for their future.

Barnhardt doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to retelling the intrigues, hypocrisy, crisis of faith, and more through Carol’s story. It is a story experienced by many real women in the church who are married to influential men, and the emotional toll it takes when the power plays start happening in what is supposed to be a house of God.

Still, these same experiences are what have shaped Barnhardt to become both an author as well as a compelling, motivational speaker. She has been hard at work in her own para ministry that helps not only in the church but abroad. Barnhardt lets them know that they can still turn to God even in the face of discomforting truths about certain spiritual leaders.
