Hector L. Coleman’s Powerful Defense of Independent “Storefront” Churches Set to Make Its Case at Exhibit During L.A. Times Festival of Books

As a substance abuse counselor and pastor, Hector Coleman has spent plenty of time among marginalized communities. However, he has a special place for the so-called “storefront churches” that sought independence despite resulting in smaller congregations. It is the main motivation behind his book “The Confessions Of A Storefront Church,” which offers readers an inside look at the struggle of these underprivileged faith groups. The book will soon be exhibited at the prestigious Los Angeles Times

“More than just a book about small, black churches, this is about Who called them there in the first place.”

For those familiar with America’s religious landscape, splits between churches and the resulting new ones are not that uncommon.

But for Pastor Hector Coleman, there is a story about all of them that needs to be shared. It is a story that provides not only caution but also sympathy and support. It is a story he shares in his one and only book, “The Confessions Of A Storefront Church.”

In “The Confessions Of A Storefront Church,” the author combines his extensive knowledge of contemporary American Christianity and Scripture as well as the harsh realities that particularly shaped black church communities in the last hundred years.

It is also a book that he hopes would guide many soul-searching preachers and passionate Bible students who want to take the risk and start their own congregations. Because in his experience, it is not only hard. It is unfairly hard, regardless of how right or ultimately vindicated a would-be pastor is.

The book is now set to be exhibited at the upcoming Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2025, where Coleman hopes that it may catch the eye of young, seriously practicing Christians who are considering their own ministry. The book lists plenty of the pitfalls that they can avoid, and ensure that the “storefront church” they found will truly become a House of God.

Those curious about Hector L. Coleman’s “The Confessions Of A Storefront Church” can find it on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit under booth #225. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2025 is scheduled to take place on April 26-27, 2025 at the University of Southern California.

The book is available on Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
