Anne D. Bachner’s Dedicated Bio of Family Behind Landmark Stone Barn in Wisconsin Set to Exhibit at 2025 London Book Fair
Anne D. Bachner originally started out as an educator who fostered a love for literature and composition among her students. As time went on, a detour into the field of history and architecture sparked a desire to base her first book on the subject. The result was “Prairie Legacy,” a dramatized yet faithful biography of the Thomas family, whose stories lie behind a historic stone barn in rural Wisconsin. This year, the book will be exhibited at the 2025 London Book Fair.
“…this book gives a clear perception of the Thomas family. There was a simple feeling with me not knowing more and now there will be a feeling of tranquility when I get the chance to visit again. I was lucky enough to have met Lena when I was 9 or 10 and what she didn’t have a chance to tell me this book did.” - Shamayne Neesley
Every year, the London Book Fair gathers publishers, authors, and book distributors for opportunities to showcase catalogs and discuss new content creation trends. Titles from a wide range of genres are going to be showcased, offering a platform for smaller, independent writers to showcase their expertise.
It is an opportunity that Anne D. Bachner is certainly seizing as she continues on her mission to help preserve a piece of American history.
Anne Bachner is the author of “Prairie Legacy: The Thomas Family, Their Farm and Stone Barn,” a dramatic yet faithful biography about the Thomas family, the same family behind the historic Thomas Stone Barn in rural Wisconsin. In 2000, the barn gained a protected status under the State Register of Historic Places and then made it to the National Register of Historic Places the following year.
In “Prairie Legacy,” Anne Bachner shares a detailed account of the Thomas family across four generations and how the stone barn came to be. Its existence, along with that of the surrounding farm, had kept much of the family rooted in the old ways of prairie life despite several members moving out through the years.
The book also talks about how life on the Thomas’ farm bore witness to the area’s transformation with the arrival of the Chicago and North Western Railroad. At some point, it also covers the more recent threats to the farm from developers and how work was done to give it the protected status it holds today.

Author Bio
Anne Bachner began her professional life as an educator. Upon graduation from college, she taught language arts to junior high and high school students for 33 years. She enjoyed reading and even began to write, as she taught her students to enjoy literature and composition.
Ann was interested in history and architecture, which led her to produce this book, “Prairie Legacy.” Later, Anne came to work with an organization that saved old barns. In 2007, after discovering a unique stone barn in a nearby community, she knew she needed to write “Prairie Legacy.”
The author knew the Thomas stone barn needed to be put on the National Register for Historic Places, but after she heard some of Harold Thomas’ family stories, she could not be satisfied with just measuring the barn. She needed to write about this family as well. Her next literary challenge in 2015, was to edit her sister’s novel of historical fiction called The Wager and in 2019 to promote Chuck Tennessen’s Forever Earthbound.
