The book event will take place on June 26-30, 2024, at the COEX Halls C&D1, 513 Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea. “Looking Back Kathmandu to Everest” is a photo journey by photographer Lloyd Johnson, not as a conqueror of mountains, but rather a photographic journey of the people, the culture, and the natural environment. The year was 1973 when Lloyd traveled with his Nikon F cameras. He went beyond the confines of the city of Kathmandu and stepped back in time. After leaving the town, the trip needed more electricity, indoor plumbing, telephone, guest houses, and hotels. Out of respect for the people and their way of life, all photographs were taken spontaneously and never set up or posed. Lloyd tried to capture the moments of life.

Over the three weeks, he trekked from Kathmandu along the Lamosangu and the Khumbu region. All areas through which climbers or trekkers passed on their way to the Everest summit. Lloyd’s journey led him through small villages, monasteries, marketplaces, and beautiful scenery, and he was transformed into a life utterly different from what people live in today. The book allows people to look back and see what living as they did for thousands of years was like.

“Looking Back Kathmandu to Everest: Photographs from 1973” is available on Amazon. The book will inspire photographers and travelers to respect other cultures and customs as they explore the world. Take advantage of the book’s display at ReadersMagnet’s exhibit booth at the 2024 Seoul International Book Fair.
