Gudrun Cuillo’s Romantic Novelization of Life Among Today’s Italian Winemakers Set to Feature at the London Book Fair 2024

Every year, the London Book Fair attracts thousands of visitors who are eager to discover new stories in the hopes of sparking imaginations and reading about different experiences. It’s also a place where plenty of recently published authors can share debut novels (with a good number of them inspired by events in their own lives).

Still, those looking for stories about wine culture and the beautiful Italian countryside can find a great example in “Casalvento: House of the Wind,” the debut novel of award-winning wine entrepreneur Gudrun Cuillo.

The novel follows Erika Germoglio, an ambitious self-made woman who already has a lot going for her. But one day, life decides to keep giving gifts that might soon be beyond what she can handle!

From out of nowhere, she finds herself the inheritor of the titular Casalvento, a house and vineyard in the Chianti region of Tuscany. Along with that, she’s also inherited Livernano, a historical village transformed into a cozy bed-n-breakfast. Yet, like every surprise inheritance, there’s a condition: she must dedicate five months to learning the business of the two estates.

The book pretty much checks off a lot of boxes. Cuillo and her husband are the owners of the real-live Casalvento Winery, and she packs her novel with plenty of details about their life inside her book. Along with that includes romantic twists, the challenges of business, and all set against the gorgeous Tuscan countryside.

Author’s Biography
Gudrun Cuillo spent her childhood in Leibnitz, Austria. As a young adult, with her instinctive artistic flair, she joined the opera as an artist-in-residence for stage scenery and makeup. That work eventually took Gudrun to New York to continue her education.

While enjoying traveling throughout the U.S., Gudrun came to Florida where she fell in love with a successful entrepreneur and Broadway producer, Robert Cuillo, who was also Italian American. They married and in the ensuing years they established Casalvento Winery in Radda, Chianti Siena, Italy, and restored Livernano, a nearby medieval village, to its original splendor.

Gudrun has had two career passions: winemaking, which has garnered numerous awards and much recognition for Casalvento Winery, and writing. In her debut novel, Gudrun combines her life experience with her gift for storytelling.

Gudrun spends her time between Austria, Italy, and Palm Beach, Florida.
