Newspaper printers in Florida, Texas, Indiana, Washington, and Minnesota are the latest to select KODAK Thermal CTP devices, consumables and workflow to drive productivity, improve quality and boost flexibility in their operations.

Miami Herald Media Co., part of The McClatchy Company, purchased three KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS 200 Thermal Platesetters, KODAK THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates and the KODAK PRINERGY EVO Workflow System to print 372,000 daily and 480,000 Sunday copies of The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, the largest non-English newspaper in the United States.

“We did our homework and visited a number of newspapers in Florida and around the country, and found a clear delineation when it came to the level of service from Kodak,” said Craig Woischwill, Vice President of Operations with Miami Herald Media Co. “The combination of the KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS 200 Platesetter and the NELA Plateloader is really strong. We were impressed by the service and the technology.”

Ron Ferriby, Vice President of Operations with Scripps Texas Newspapers in Corpus Christi, Texas, said the decision to select two KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS 70 Thermal Platesetters, THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates, KODAK PREPS Imposition Software and KODAK STACCATO Screening was part of a corporate move to KODAK solutions and standardized production systems.

“We’re part of several Scripps Newspapers transitioning to KODAK Thermal CTP Solutions in Texas and our sister publication in Anderson, S.C., is switching, too,” says Ferriby. At his location, they print the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, a 55,000 copy daily and 78,000 copy Sunday paper, and a business publication. “We like what we have seen so far. The transition has been painless.”

The Palladium-Item in Richmond, Ind., a Gannett newspaper, purchased a KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS 150 Platesetter, THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates, and PREPS Software to print 18,000 daily copies and 22,000 Sunday copies of the newspaper, along with USA Today and commercial projects from nearly 50 customers.

“We went with the KODAK CTP Device because it offers a great solution to web growth on our press. It promises to handle fan out and get much sharper reproduction with photographs,” said Ray McCandless, Production Director at the Palladium-Item.
