Author Jim Reuther will sign copies of his book “Gunky’s Adventures In the Land of Must Believe” at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, this coming April 23, 2023, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. The book signing event is made possible by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet.

The two-day Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is the country’s largest book festival and takes place at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, USA. The event aims to bring together exceptional books and ideas in one setting. Everyone will be delighted to join the event through its varied and wholesome activities, such as book signings and exhibits.

Jim Reuther, also known as Gunky, wrote “Gunky’s Adventures” to grant his beloved wife’s request. A few days after she passed away, he found her astonishing letter in a handwritten notebook titled “How to Get Along Without Me.” The notebook served as an essential guide for the activities she did for him till the end. It contained a special request wherein she challenged Jim to continue writing about his stories.

“Gunky’s Adventures” contains a collection of twenty-five stories, one for each letter of the alphabet, beginning with his late wife’s note, “Afterlife Love Letter and Wish.” In his book, Jim looks back on his life experiences, from the humorous to heart felt, to odd happenings and surprise endings, to musings on rock and roll, to inspiring stories about family, friends, foes, and fails.

The book also contains poems titled “Xtraordinaire (Silent Sentinels),” all of which are light-hearted and reflect a life wonderfully lived. The book can serve as a beautiful gift to anyone.

Jim Reuther has a B.A. in Chemistry (1973), M.A. in Chemistry (1976), and a Ph.D. in Fuel Science (1979). He was an associate professor before serving as a research leader in Chemical-Biological-Radiological-Nuclear-Explosive (CBRNE) Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Defense, directing projects on the “E”. Jim has 12 patents and an R&D100 Award for a Top Invention in the World.

In 2015, he retired after 31 years from the National Security and Energetics divisions of a global nonprofit R&D Institute. He traveled from Alaska to Afghanistan as a subject matter expert investigating fires/explosions, collecting forensic intelligence on WMD, and demilitarizing them.

He writes poetry, short stories, and articles on soccer referee training. Jim is a 2011 inductee into the Ohio Soccer Hall of Fame as a referee. He has two adult children and a life wonderfully lived.
