Maria Silva-Amey’s Book on New Counseling Theory Will Be Exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

When it comes to counseling and career development, there is a growing acceptance of more holistic approaches that incorporate factors that were once dismissed from the scope of past theories. Maria Alice Silva-Amey is one counselor who has decided to put this practice into a book, “Culminating Experience Personal Theory: Open Feelings Toward Choosing Your Dreams.”

“Culminating Experience Personal Theory” is slated to be displayed by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the L.A. Times’ Festival of Books on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

The book focuses on the importance of self-identity for choosing and then advancing one’s career. The ideas found within were the product of Silva-Amey’s many years working for her Master of Science in Counseling, as well as her work with ethnically diverse student populations.

Being an immigrant herself, Silva-Amey has a very personal understanding of the challenges one faces when choosing careers in a multicultural society. America’s current cultural climate is full of different values that mix, transform, as well as clash within the hearts of various individuals.

In particular, she was most fascinated with the way these different individuals understood their social life, and how that understanding factors into their self-fulfillment.

She describes the core theory in her book as ‘drawn from three theories: Person-Centered Theory, Social Learning Theory, and Jungian Analytical Theory.’ Meanwhile, she dedicates the other three chapters to how this theory can be applied in a therapeutic process, study proposals, and even activities.

For students of psychology, culture, or even just those interested in the latest developments in these fields, Silva-Amey’s book offers a fresh perspective on holistic approaches.

Maria Alice Silva-Amey, M.S. was born in Brazil and immigrated to the United States where she earned an AA degree in Literature and Language, followed by a B.S. in International Business and a Master of Science degree in Counseling.

For years, she has used a holistic approach to help others, helping them learn day-by-day to guide transformation and learn how to keep going on the journey. Silva-Amey is also a member of the National Career Development Association, and author of “Poetry Gives Different Magnitudes to Understand Your Thoughts” as well as two published books, “Body and Life Short Stories” and “Times is Short,” both in Portuguese.
