ďEvery dayís the same. I wake up, the feed me, and then itís outside to the fenced in patio where I bake all summer and freeze all winter.Ē

Kenneth Sousa already has a few publications, including one story of animal fiction. His most recent work, simply titled Iím Bored, is aimed at younger audiences and will be displayed at the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books. The literary festival will take place on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

Iím Bored is told from the perspective of Scampy, a disgruntled, weary watchdog who is sick of his daily life at the doghouse. Itís hot during the summer and freezing all winter. The neighborhood cat also vexes him to no end. If itís not making a ruckus on his doghouse roof, itís taunting him through a fence he canít break through.

It doesnít help that Scampyís owners are far from perfect. The only good thing theyíve done is give him his usual meals while letting him in the house at night. Twice a year they also take him to a strange man in a white coat who pokes him with all manner of sharp tools.

For Scampy, there is nothing he wouldnít give up to just be free of it all. He longs to chase after cats, dive into trash cans, and live life as a free dog.

But one day, a little accident by a visiting workman gives him just that. Bolting through an open fence door, Scampy finally makes his break and gets the freedom he dreams of.

However, is that what he really finds when he gets out?

One thingís for sure, Scampyís story tells a timely lesson about runaways and how the world outside the home may not be what one bargains for.
