Jennifer Recio Lebedev’s Personal Reflections on Her 15-Year YouTube Journey Will Be Displayed at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

The 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books – which will take place on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles – is expected to feature many famous content creators alongside their publications. However, not all of them are musicians, hobbyists, or gamers. There are also many well-known educators, such as Jennifer Lebedev, author of “Being a YouTuber: One Creator’s Bumpy Road to 1M Subscribers.”

Known as ‘English with Jennifer’ on YouTube, Lebedev is popular among her subscribers for lessons that are encouraging, helpful, and calming. Her videos are characterized by her gentle, well-spoken style, and she has been producing them since 2007. She now has over a million subscribers, which earned her the famed Golden Play Button from YouTube.

Of course, the journey has not been smooth, as her recent book “Being a YouTuber” attests. In it, she shares something that falls between a memoir of her own creator journey and a guide for anyone who dreams of getting their own Golden Play Button someday.

Like many of them, she struggled to juggle her personal life with the need to produce content and gain the much-desired views, likes, and new subscribers. Over time, she learned to set her boundaries, striking the right balance and achieving her vision of a successful online teacher. The main message of her book is for each creator to define success on their own terms. In fact, her story conveys a lesson that anyone and everyone can embrace: we are each capable of inspiring and being inspired.
