Charles Sampson Held a Successful Book Signing Event at the 2023 LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience

As an emeritus professor of Public Affairs and Black studies, Dr. Charles Sampson strives to share his comprehensive knowledge about the historical region of Senegambia with readers. Thus, “Sparrows of Senegambia: A Memoir” (ReadersMagnet LLC; 2022) was published.

The book “Sparrows of Senegambia: A Memoir” was recently displayed at the 2023 LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet last January 27-30, 2023, at New Orleans Morial Center, New Orleans, Louisiana, where the author also held a book signing event last January 28, 2023.

The emotionally stirring and thought-provoking memoir reflects the author’s thoughts on race, history, and family. Charles’ travel to Senegal way back in 2005 was the beginning of his knowledge of the section of Africa once known as Senegambia, which is now no longer recognized by that name.

This book also emphasizes the history of how racial discrimination started, brainwashing the people who were labeled as “Negros” to accept a permanent inferior role in society.

However, this memoir is more than just telling the author’s travel experiences. Charles explains: “This trip down memory lane has brought me face-to-face with some bedeviling concepts, such as distinguishing between right and wrong and good and evil. My spiritual life and work experiences have indelibly stamped on my consciousness that doing the ‘right thing’ isn’t always ‘good’ and can often have negative consequences.”

Author Bio

Charles Sampson, Ph.D., is the seventh son of the late Plummer and Lurline Sampson. The Mississippi native grew up in a materially impoverished family in the “Free State of Jones County” during the waning days of Jim Crow, which legalized segregation and second-class citizenship immediately before the passage of LBJ’s Great Society legislation. Charles completed high school, undergraduate study, and a four-year stint as an officer in the USAF during the Vietnam War era before earning a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh. He married his college sweetheart, Joy Pulley, and they raised a family; they both served as college administrator(s) and professor(s). He is a Fulbright awardee and was a visiting professor at Khon Kaen University in Thailand, and at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. He is also an emeritus at the University of Missouri.
