Honor Mamath’s Book Was Featured at East Coast’s Largest State Library Association Conference

“I Remember the Risorgimento” is a first-person narrative of Jessie White’s time spent on the Italian peninsula during the revolutionary period known as the Risorgimento (Italian unification). Jessie devoted herself entirely to the cause of Italian freedom and unity. She also nursed the troops of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian general and patriot who spearheaded the unification of Italy, and worked as a propagandist for Giuseppe Mazzini, an Italian revolutionary and exile in London. Subsequently, Jessie married Alberto Mario, a Garibaldi supporter.

This book tells the story of Jessie, a Victorian English lady who defies convention by getting a job after finishing school. Thus, her life’s work is split between writing and advocacy work for various social movements.

The book also talks about the dangers of war, political intrigues, and a surprise romance, and it features a strong feminine component. The names, places, and events in the book come from Jessie’s summary printed in the New Castle Daily Chronicle in 1861.

Honor Mamath lived in Europe in the 1960s when the U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Since that shock to the world, she’s been interested in what history can teach us. As a substitute teacher in history, English, and science classes at high schools in California, her experience in education inspires her plots and stories. She is also the author of the novels “Privilege meets Politics” and “Roy’s Daughters in an Age of Despots.”
