Hyattsville, MD and Philadelphia, PA – WEBWIRE

Marilyn Benjamin Wassmann is the author of children’s books and poems and interestingly, the artist herself illustrates her published books. She wrote “What the Wind Blew In: 6 Stories to Read with Children,” which contained six tales, “Pen Scratching Poets: A Collection of One Family’s Creative Pursuits” and “The Opossum and the Cats,” a heart-warming tale of two remarkably different creatures who meet unexpectedly and harmoniously coexist in the fullness of time.

In her book, “The Opossum and the Cats,” she illustrates that despite differences, we will eventually find common ground in unexpected ways and in unlikely places. The story is about an opossum who enjoys solitude and living peacefully underneath a shed. One day, the opossum heard a cat’s plea for help as she is desperately in labor to give birth to her five kittens. With his decision to help the cat, his den was suddenly filled with playful kittens and joy, after living his years of isolation. The story would also entail heroism as a tragic accident occurs, when four kittens play around the pond and fall into the water, and the opossum saves the kittens’ lives. This book would make a great addition to anyone’s to-read list as it is beautifully written in rhymes and gives insightful facts about the creatures and most importantly- moral lessons to everyone.

On the side of writing poems and fascinating stories for children and readers of all ages, she also enjoys drawing and painting. Wassmann currently lives in Hyattsville, Maryland together with her husband Paul, and some fishes, several cats, and one dog.
