The future of consumer products is climate-friendly, and our customers are leading the way. We are excited to support consumer companies as they achieve carbon transparency and build a path to decarbonization.

Planet FWD, the leading carbon assessment platform making it easy for consumer brands to take climate action, today announces it raised a $10 million Series A, led by Acre Venture Partners and Congruent Ventures. The company is also announcing its partnership with Kashi, PANGAIA, Just Salad, Numi Organic Tea, Healthy Hippo, Toodaloo and Sweet Lorens, as it works with these companies to help reach their climate goals.

There are less than 100 months left to reach the 2030 global goal of cutting at least 40% of greenhouse gas emissions (from 1990 levels). While most people think of energy or transportation as the key levers in tackling the climate crisis, consumer products have a large role to play. Household goods and services, including groceries, clothing and personal care, account for 60% of global emissions. And consumers are growing hungry for brands to take action as they increasingly grow concerned about the climate crisis. In fact, 82% of Millennials and Gen-Zers believe brands should take more responsibility for fighting climate change. It’s past due for consumer demand, climate targets and climate action to match up.

“The fact is that we are not currently on track to meet our global 2030 climate targets, but we still have time to get on the right path. As daunting as the challenge may seem, I believe that it is actually a privilege to live during this window of time when we still have an opportunity to stave off the worst effects of the climate crisis,” stated Julia Collins, founder and CEO of Planet FWD. “The future of consumer products is climate-friendly, and our customers are leading the way. We are excited to support consumer companies as they achieve carbon transparency and build a path to decarbonization.”

With this new funding, Planet FWD will expand its team and accelerate product development. Acre Venture Partners and Congruent Ventures join existing investors Emerson Collective and BBG Ventures, as well as Precursor, Concrete Rose, January Ventures, Elemental Excelerator, Cleo Capital and ReThink Food in bolstering Planet FWD’s mission.

“While there’s no one solution to tackling the climate crisis, we stand to make a massive impact if we can rapidly decarbonize the food system and broader consumer goods sector,” shared Sam Kass, Partner at Acre Venture Partners. “Julia’s vision is clear, and her team’s passion and talent are already driving change by reducing emissions across food, fashion and beauty brands. We’re proud to help fuel this next phase of growth as Planet FWD powers a climate-friendly consumer movement.”

Planet FWD’s carbon management platform simplifies a brand’s ability to measure, reduce, neutralize and report its carbon footprint for both individual products as well as company-wide emissions. Leveraging the largest Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) database for agricultural production systems in North America, Planet FWD’s core technology has robust Scope 3 emissions modeling capabilities to help brands address their supply chain, which contributes up to 89% of emissions for consumer products on average.

Working with brands on tailored carbon management and reduction plans to drive environmental impact, Planet FWD has granted carbon neutral certification to brands like PANGAIA, Moonshot Snacks (Planet FWD’s sister company), Simple Truth, Healthy Hippo and Kiki Milk. The platform also helps brands identify the high-quality carbon offsets to ensure permanent, additive carbon removal for carbon neutral certification. In addition, the company has also carbon labeled menus and products for brands such as Just Salad and Numi Organic Tea. Kashi, Toodaloo, Sweet Lorens and dozens more have also begun their climate action journey with Planet FWD’s technology.

“In selecting a partner for carbon labeling, it was important that we could trust our actions were actually making an impact. We chose Planet FWD for their transparent and thorough LCA reporting,” expressed Sandra Noonan of Just Salad. “For instance, it was key that their platform could model ingredient emissions based on farm-level practices. As we continue to work with Planet FWD and look to source from regenerative suppliers emphasizing planet and soil health, we’ll be able to design new menu items with ingredient emissions in mind.”

To date, Planet FWD has raised $16.8M on its mission to tackle climate change. Companies interested in starting their climate journey can visit planetfwd.com for more information.
