Bavaria launches Nativa, a cassava-based beer grown in the Colombian Caribbean

WEBWIRE
  • Nativa, the first cassava starch-based beer in Bavaria’s portfolio, marks a milestone in terms of innovation and commitment to regional development.
  • The Caribbean Coast will be Nativa’s pioneer market, launching it in Córdoba and Sucre, the source of the raw material for the beer.
  • This project is the result of the joint work of Bavaria, the Governments of Córdoba and Sucre, and other public and private partners. In the next four months, it will use 1,140 tons of cassava sourced from local farmers.

Earlier this month, our Bavaria team proudly shared its newest brewing innovation with the world: Nativa, Bavaria’s first beer made with cassava grown along Colombia’s Caribbean Coast by farmers from Córdoba and Sucre. This development not only marks a milestone in Colombian brewing innovation, but its production also represents a positive impact for the agricultural development of the region, connecting small and medium cassava growers to its value chain.

We work closely with farmers to innovate our products and continue to make beer a more inclusive category. This new model ensures farmers a reliable market for their crops, leveraging local production processes and improving livelihoods in the communities involved. In the remainder of this year, the project will positively impact more than 200 farmers and is expected to expand across Córdoba and Sucre over the next two years.

Marcel Regis, president of Bavaria, indicated that “at Bavaria we firmly believe that it is possible to transform Colombia by betting on the development and competitiveness of agriculture, creating more favorable conditions for farmers, which translate into an improvement in their livelihoods and generate a positive impact for society.”

By the end of 2022, around 3,811 tons of cassava will have been purchased, which translates into around 907 tons of starch and approximately 245 thousand hectoliters of beer, which will be sold locally.

By launching Nativa, we continue our journey of inclusive growth and strengthen our commitment to innovation and the implementation of business initiatives with social impact.
