Professional and People’s Choice Winners Head to Sundance Film Festival

Tewksbury, Mass - January 17, 2007 - Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) has announced the two grand-prize winners of the 30-Second Spot contest, which the company ran in conjunction with MovieMaker Magazine. Aaron Osborne’s commercial entitled “In the Halls of Avid, One is Many,” won the Professional’s Choice category. The entry was chosen by professional commercial editor and AICE (Association of Independent Creative Editors) award winner, Chris Franklin of Big Sky Editorial. Bob Chambers’ “Caveman” entry won the People’s Choice category, which was judged by MovieMaker.com visitors. Approximately 110,000 votes were registered on MovieMaker.com throughout the contest period.

* The Professional’s Choice Award, “In Halls of Avid, One is Many,” is an HD spot that Osborne created using a Panasonic AG-HVX200 camera, Avid Xpress® Pro software, and Adobe After Effects. As part of the Professional’s Choice Award, the spot will air approximately 100 times throughout the Sundance Film Festival on Park City TV (PCTV) – Sundance’s exclusive “All Access” news station. The spot will be seen by festival attendees including producers, directors, editors, studio executives and Hollywood talent.
* The People’s Choice Award, “Caveman,” received more than 9,600 votes from Moviemaker.com visitors. Chambers created his winning entry using a Sony WS790 camera, and Avid® Media Composer® Adrenaline™ and Digidesign® Pro Tools® systems.

Both winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the 2007 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Additionally, the creators behind the 50 most popular entries (based on the number of People’s Choice votes received) will each get a free copy of Avid Xpress Pro software – the same editing tool used by some of the top content creators in film, television and music video production. Quotes from Chris Franklin, MovieMaker Magazine, and contest winner Aaron Osborn:

Chris Franklin, who served as the Professional’s Choice Judge, said, “There were so many creative and entertaining commercials to choose from, but Aaron’s use of imagination, skill and intrigue made his spot really stand out over the other entries. The pace, the audio and the use of graphics really brought the piece to life.”

“The era of the digital moviemaker has exposed the world to so much raw talent,” said Jennifer Wood, editor of MovieMaker Magazine. “We had a tremendous response to the contest and are excited that we’ve been able to share the creative, humorous and innovative works of both established and up-and-coming directors, producers and editors.”

“I’m ecstatic that Avid is providing me with an opportunity to showcase my work on such a big stage,” Aaron Osborne, the Professional’s Choice winner. “There are so many tools out there to make a video come to life, and Avid Xpress Pro is at the top of the list. My spot shows how one person – with Avid software – can make a vision come to life. The idea behind it is that a character in a hallway, with numerous images surrounding him...his ideas...all different...can create any or all of them with Avid.”
