Strengthens position in law firm IT, operations consulting

EAGAN, Minn. 01/05/2007, The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) today announced the acquisition of Baker Robbins & Company, the leading provider of technology and information management consulting to law firms and law departments. The acquisition of Baker Robbins provides a powerful complement to the Thomson portfolio of legal consulting services, and will be aligned with the company’s Consulting Services group. Baker Robbins is privately held; terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

David Hanssens, president of Consulting Services for Thomson, explained that acquiring Baker Robbins gives Thomson a depth of understanding of law firm and law department business processes and technology needs that is unmatched in the legal marketplace. “The legal industry today faces more complex challenges than ever before,” said Hanssens. “Baker Robbins is recognized for its disciplined and innovative approach to technology consulting, and is trusted by many of the world’s largest and most successful law firms and law departments for its insight and expertise to meet those challenges. Its unique insights into legal technology trends also give us a sharper perspective on the key issues confronting both inside and outside counsel and will be critical to shaping our overall customer and product strategies.”

Baker Robbins’ co-founders, Chairman David Baker and President and CEO Brad Robbins, will continue to provide leadership for the firm, and consultants will support clients from Baker Robbins offices in Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and London.

Legal Market’s Most Comprehensive Portfolio of Consulting Services

Hanssens explained that Baker Robbins adds a powerful new dimension to the Thomson legal consulting businesses, which include leading legal strategy consulting firm Hildebrandt International. “The best law firms and law departments recognize that the right technology underpinnings are critical for operationalizing business strategy and can be a powerful competitive advantage. Our consultants offer the insight, experience and independence plus the resources and market reach that help law firms and corporate legal departments stay ahead in an increasingly competitive market,” he added.

David Baker, chairman of Baker Robbins, said the hallmarks of objectivity and accountability remain the essence of the firm. “We built our practice by focusing on the unique needs of each client and by delivering tailored solutions that address each client’s priorities and long-term goals,” said Baker. “As part of Thomson, we now have access to new resources and market reach so we can be even more effective in serving the unique business and technology needs of each of our clients.”
