Broken Hearts

WEBWIRE

On Valentine’s Day 2018, 17 people were killed in the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Change the Ref (CTR), a non-profit organization that advocates for stricter gun laws by combining art and activism, worked with MullenLowe U.S., to create candy conversation hearts inspired by victims’ and survivors’ final text messages to act as stark reminders of the devastation caused by gun violence.

CTR’s candy “broken hearts” were handed out during a series of live art events last week in Los Angeles, Boston and Washington, D.C.

“This is the new reality on Valentine’s Day unless we do something” says Patricia and Manuel Oliver, who lost their son, Joaquin, that day. They founded CTR in memory of their son. Patricia and Manny have committed to making sure that their son’s life and the lives of the other 16 victims are never forgotten and that real change takes place to prevent future tragedies like this from happening ever again.
