Firefly, the Nation’s Fastest-Growing Media Platform, Honored by TIME Magazine as a Best Invention of 2019

A win-win-win for brands, citizens and drivers, the company earns a highly coveted spot on TIME’s annual list

Today Firefly, the company leveraging taxi and transportation network company vehicles to build a street-level digital media network, announced it has been recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Best Inventions of 2019. The award honors global inventions making the world “better, smarter and even a bit more fun.”

To assemble the 2019 TIME Best Inventions list, organizers solicited nominations across a variety of categories from editors and correspondents worldwide. Each contender was evaluated on factors such as originality, effectiveness, ambition and influence. The result: 100 groundbreaking inventions changing the way we live, work, play and think about what’s possible.

Since launching out of stealth in December 2018, Firefly has powered the next generation of advertising technology inspired by the value of community-centric effort. As the nation’s fastest-growing street-level media platform, the company offers brands the highest resolution of any digital out-of-home (DOOH) display on the market, delivering highly effective advertising campaigns for household names like Adidas, HotelTonight and DoorDash.

Firefly works directly with for-hire drivers, installing our proprietary displays atop their vehicles and serving geo-targeted, programmable out-of-home (OOH) advertising on the screens. The displays concurrently boost income for drivers nationwide, who earn up to an additional 15 percent more per month without driving additional hours, enabling greater flexibility and financial stability. Additionally, a minimum of 10 percent of our ad space is dedicated to community organizations, nonprofits, and social causes through our City Partners like the AdCouncil and AMBER Alert at no cost.
“When I first envisioned Firefly, I pictured a product that was not purely a value-add for burgeoning cities, but more so an innovation that benefitted individuals living and working in these communities,” stated Firefly co-founder and CEO, Kaan Gunay. “We are truly honored that our work is being recognized for this greater mission and being included on TIME’s prestigious list.”

Over the past year, Firefly has secured $51.5M in funding from names like GV (formerly Google Ventures) and NFX, expanding operations to the country’s top media markets of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and New York City. The company recently launched its newest display, dubbed Sunrise.
