Bosch Security Systems’ new Professional Series intrusion detectors have received the 2006 Detektor International Award in the category Best Alarm Products. The award underscores the company’s successful track record in developing advanced intrusion detector technologies. New, patented technologies employed in the Professional Series include the TriFocus optical system and Sensor Data Fusion (SDF) digital signal processing.

Launched in August 2006, Bosch’s Professional Series intrusion detectors are aimed at commercial and industrial markets. The combination of TriFocus and SDF ensures maximum optical gain and signal quality to provide optimal detection and minimize false alarms. TriFocus employs three proprietary, precision-engineered lenses for long-, medium- and short-range detection in combination with two, separate PIR elements. These three focal lengths are optimized for different detection ranges. The combined use of three lenses effectively eliminates possible gaps between the detector zones.

Sensor Data Fusion intelligently co-processes signals from up to five sensors – two PIR, one room temperature, one white light and, in selected models, one microwave sensor. The data are simultaneously analyzed by a proprietary digital signal processing algorithm embedded in a high-performance microcontroller. The algorithm takes into account all data combined to arrive at an alarm decision. In this way SDF technology improves catch performance by at least 35 per cent to provide greatly increased false alarm immunity and responsiveness.

Among other key features, the Professional Series intrusion detectors offer range-adaptive microwave sensing, active white-light suppression, dip-switch range setting and dynamic temperature compensation. The unique two-piece ergonomic physical design provides benefits for installers that decrease installation time by up to 25 per cent and reduce error risk. A choice of mounting heights between two and three meters allows convenient positioning without the need for adjustments.

The 2006 Detektor International Award took place in Copenhagen on 8 and 9 November in conjunction with the Sectech Exhibition and Conference. Selection of entries is carried out by a panel of judges comprising eight independent members of the editorial board of Sweden’s Detektor International magazine. The panel chose Bosch’s Professional Series on the basis of “increased capability of true intrusion detection, whilst simultaneously and significantly reducing false alarms. Smart, reliable and simply the Best Alarm Product 2006.”
