Team Speedo swept the board at the 18th FINA World Championships in South Korea, breaking four world records and claiming a total of 42 medals during the two week tournament.

Dominating the podiums was Caeleb Dressel, crowned ‘Male Swimmer Of The Meet’, for his triple gold medal win in a mere two hours on the Saturday night, matching his achievement during the championships in Budapest two years previously. Notably, he smashed Michael Phelps’ world record in the semi-final of the 100m butterfly, with a time of 49.50 seconds.

Now the first man to win eight medals at a single swimming world championships, Dressel achieved gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle, mixed 4x100m free relay, 50m and 100m butterfly and 4x100m free relay.

Other outstanding performances by Team Speedo athletes included Ariarne Titmus’ historic gold in the 400m freestyle, and an unbelievable comeback by Ye Shiwen, who claimed two silvers in the 200 and 400 IM. Successes were also had in the pool by Matt Wilson, Kylie Masse, Anton Chupkov and Mischa Romanchuk.

71% of all new individual world records at the championships were set by athletes wearing Speedo Fastskin suits: Pure Intent or Pure Valor.

Ben Tarrant, Sports Marketing Manager, Pentland Brands, says: “The 18th FINA World Championships was an exceptional meet for Team Speedo, not only bringing the brand success and visibility, but also reinforcing on a global platform the exceptional quality of our suits. The World Championships is a significant marker for our athletes and Team Speedo ahead of Tokyo 2020. It’s a clear statement that if you want to swim fast, you need to be in Speedo.”
