Southern Weekend ranks Motorola China number two citing investment, performance and brand recognition as driving factors

Beijing, China – 27 November, 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) a global leader in wireless and broadband communications, announced today that Southern Weekend, an influential Chinese business newspaper, rated Motorola the number two spot in its survey of Most Influential Fortune 500 Companies operating in China. It also ranked Motorola highest in a list of Best-Performing Fortune 500 Companies.

Southern Weekend has a circulation of 1.3 million. It conducts an annual poll of Fortune 500 Companies operating in China citing financial performance, investment in China, regional contributions, corporate social responsibility and brand recognition as criteria. Motorola moved up the list from the number four spot in 2005.

Southern Weekend used specific parameters to gauge the Fortune 500 companies doing business in China. For example, it measured these companies’ business performance by total revenues, pre-tax profit and exports, regional contributions by tax payment, employment of local staff, local sourcing and number of R&D centers, corporate social responsibilities by employee benefits, quality of products and services, environmental protection, involvement in public welfare and corporate governance.

“This is truly an honor and recognizes Motorola’s firm commitment to investing, transferring technologies and building local manufacturing and R&D capabilities in China, which will provide China with the advanced communications solutions it needs to continue to be a major player and driver in the global economy,” said Ruey Bin Kao, president of Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd.

Today, Motorola has one holding company, three wholly owned companies, five joint ventures, 18 R&D centers and 25 branch offices across China. At the end of 2005, the number of employees exceeded 10,000, and the total cumulative investment in China reached US$3.6 billion, making it one of the largest foreign investors in China.
