GoPro Snags Two Shorty Awards

We’re stoked to be honored as a two-time Shorty Award winner this year and secure the title of back-to-back Best Overall Instagram Presence winner.

In back-to-back wins, that win has us joining the ranks of other back-to-back greats, like the ‘04/‘05 Super Bowl Champ-winning Patriots, Tiger at the Masters in ‘01/’02 and MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi basically from 2001 to 2005. Not a bad crew to associate with.

Accolades from the Shorty Awards aren’t based on strategy used on the field, course or track, though, these honors recognize the best content creators and producers on social media. And with regard to Instagram, the GoPro strategy focused on family growth, community and quality. In 2018, the GoPro Instagram grew to 15.6 million followers and secured its position as a leader in sharing adventures, experiences and innovations.

In addition to Overall Instagram Presence, the Shorty Awards are honoring GoPro with the Best User-Generate Content, thanks to the Million Dollar Challenge video that launched in Dec. 2017.

When HERO7 Black launched in September, we challenged the GoPro Community to help us create the most epic highlight reel ever, and in exchange, we offered $1 million to be shared equally amongst the featured content creators. The only rules were: footage needed to be shot on HERO7 Black, and it had to submitted raw by Dec. 9 at 11:59 PM PT. The resulting 2-minute highlight reel, which you view below, came from 25,000 submissions and features 66 clips, from 56 creators, representing 22 countries.

This approach to a community-driven highlight reel has opened our eyes to an entirely new way to conceptualize, shoot, produce and build product stories, and it will certainly not be the last of its kind from GoPro.
