Tavis McKenzie, President and CEO of Kalendar Productions Inc. is scheduled to speak at Impact 2006 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on November 13 and 14th. 300 high school and university students from across Canada will be attending his workshops and case study. His inspiring talks on negotiation and entrepreneurship have been seen at all major student-run business conferences in Toronto: APEX Conference 2006, Impact Conference 2006, Science & Business Technology Conference 2005 and Commerce Round Table 2005.

The Scurfield Squire (University of Calgary’s student paper) described Mr. McKenzie’s workshop as “...a charismatic and inspiring talk on negotiation.”

New to this year’s workshops will be highlights from his experiences conceptualizing, developing and promoting Phonecarddepot.com, an e-commerce company that Mr. McKenzie helped develop. Phonecarddepot.com is an online vendor of brand name calling cards. Mr. McKenzie describes the new company as follows: “Phonecarddepot.com allows consumers to instantly receive calling cards by e-mail. These are the exact same cards that they can purchase in convenience stores, at Roger’s Video, Mac’s or Canada Post. We even offer calling cards that consumers can use while on vacation too: places like Argentina, Germany or Belgium are supported. No more elaborate rates or hidden fees offered by unscrupulous street vendors. It’s a great service.” The workshops will also include a section on website, and credit card processing security, one of Phonecardddepot.com’s fortes.

Most of the workshop content surrounds Kalendar Productions Inc., Canada’s only specialist in placing student handbook media. Mr. McKenzie started Kalendar Productions Inc. in 2001 to satisfy a void in the student advertising market and has grown Kalendar Productions Inc. to service over 355,000 students across Canada. Mr. McKenzie described his product when interviewed by Advertising Director of The Insider (the official student newspaper of the Schulich School of Business in Toronto) Leon Ang: “Kalendar Productions Inc. brokers print media on campus for most of the universities and colleges in Canada. We can reach 355,000 students with a single advertisement. Our clients include many consumer packaged goods companies, quick-serve restaurants and professional designations. We do whatever it takes to secure the rights to advertising space, there are many creative ways to do it. The business model is that we are a media supplier, a supplier that gets ads in hard to reach places.”

On November 14th, Mr. McKenzie will lead 300 students through a case study of Phonecarddepot.com. The students will analyze the data presented and present their findings and recommendations to a panel of judges from Deloitte and Touche, one of the world’s top accounting firms. The winning recommendations will be implemented into Phonecarddepot.com’s 2007 marketing plan.
