Rohde & Schwarz has joined the Ingolstadt UAM initiative as an additional industry partner. Christian Leicher, President and CEO of Rohde & Schwarz, signed a manifesto of intent at a partner network meeting. The initiative is supported by the European Commission. Its aim is to research the deployment of aircraft for urban mobility through practical studies and model tests.

“Rohde & Schwarz will contribute its many decades of expertise in the areas of communications, information and safety,” says Christian Leicher. “As a technology company, we want to create the communications and safety technology of the future. Along with concepts such as autonomous driving, mobility in the third dimension will shape tomorrow’s connected smart cities. As a partner of the Ingolstadt initiative, we can help drive the future of urban mobility.”

Among other things, achieving urban air mobility depends on the seamless integration of various technologies into aircraft, such as onboard sensors, flight connectivity, communications links and air navigation. As a T&M expert in the aerospace, wireless and automotive fields, Rohde & Schwarz offers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for these challenges. Manufacturers can use these solutions to verify the faultless system performance of their UAM aircraft and services, which is a decisive factor for safety and reliability in urban airspace.

As an integral part of the UAM initiative, Rohde & Schwarz looks forward to welcoming the partners of the Ingolstadt UAM initiative and guests from industry and politics at the next UAM cluster meeting in its Munich headquarters.
