Mark Doidge – Brain Waves Can be Used to Unleash Greater Understanding of the Depths of Electrical Activity of the Sleeping Mind

A major breakthrough has been achieved for clinical sleep medicine and sleep research.

Miami, FL – WEBWIRE

Even before birth, we all have an extraordinary and fascinating “symphony” of poorly understood electrical currents flowing through our brains. They are seen as brain waves using an electroencephalograph (EEG). They occur day and night. They are integral to what it means to be human.

Dr. Mark Doidge’s breakthroughs have led to a new book entitled “Atlas of the Electrical Generators of Sleep”. It will be presented at the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair and on display from October 10-14, 2018 in Frankfurt Germany.

It is based on a technology known as “source localization” which uses advanced mathematical algorithms to find the locations in the brain where the wave forms of EEG are being generated. This book forges source localization into a practical, understandable, and accessible tool for anyone interested in sleep. It will be of special interest to anyone interested in a career in sleep research and in advancing clinical sleep medicine.

It brings the reader to discoveries about the main waveforms of sleep. This Atlas contains detailed sample still images of the generators of the waveforms of sleep of the human brain.

Dr. Doidge co-invented and patented a “brain camera” that makes brain movies of the generators of brain waves. It was used to make the links to the brain movies for this book. (They are best viewed with a desktop computer.) These movies tell a fascinating new “story” of a hitherto unsuspected world of currents migrating through the brain over time.

Dr. Doidge’s book, with its hundreds of links and references, is a gateway to knowledge about brain waves in sleep. It is scholarly, but designed to be as accessible as possible to lay readers.  It also has a large section on normal waking brain waves.

About the Author
Dr. Mark Doidge conceived and led the project. He earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1982. He has been a practicing family physician for 35 years, where he gained exposure to sleep disorders. He is a former National Practice of Excellence Award winner (Physician of the Year) for his work in founding Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief, an NGO that helped over 2.5 million people in the developing world during his tenure. He is also, with Dr. Edward Brown the co-originator of the NORTH Network, which became the Ontario Telemedicine Network, presently the leading telemedicine network in Ontario, Canada.

He has been working in the field of brain signal analysis by source localization of EEG for 15 years. Most of this time was spent in the role of many of the new developing new imaging and analysis tools that are featured in this book. They were created in the hope that one day they will find a prominent position in clinical medicine.
