DuPont to Double R&D Investment in Environmentally Smart Market Opportunities by 2015

BURLINGTON, VT, October 27, 2006 - DuPont Chief Sustainability Officer Linda J. Fisher told the 16th annual Society of Environmental Journalists conference here today that global sustainable market opportunities are growing at a rapid pace.

“Sustainability is increasingly becoming central to how we look at opportunities in the marketplace,” Fisher said. “DuPont is committed to delivering value for our shareholders while developing products and services that enhance the world we live in. Sustainable solutions largely will come from scientific innovation in the private sector, and DuPont is committed to seize this opportunity. Some companies say that what’s good for the environment can also be good for business. We believe that what’s good for business must also be good for the environment and for people everywhere around the world. ”

Fisher spoke as part of the “Corporate Green” panel during the conference. She joined representatives from Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola and other companies in discussing the ways businesses have been embracing sustainability to make a difference for both shareholders and society in general.

DuPont recently announced renewed sustainability commitments that are expected to generate $6 billion in additional revenues by 2015. Expanded business offerings include market-based solutions that address safety, environmental, energy and climate challenges facing global markets. Fisher pointed out that revenues from the company’s current safety and environmental offerings are increasing at double the company’s average annual growth rate.

DuPont’s sustainability commitments take a holistic approach that is integrated into its business models and span all of its operations – from research and development to manufacturing and marketing, she said.

DuPont – one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals nearly 20 years ago – has broadened its sustainability commitments beyond internal footprint reduction to include market-driven targets for revenue and research and development investment. The goals are tied directly to business growth, specifically to the development of safer and environmentally improved new products for DuPont’s key global markets, including transportation, building and construction, agriculture and food, and communications.

By 2015, DuPont has committed to:

* Double its research and development investment in environmentally smart market opportunities;
* Double revenues to $8 billion from non-depletable resources;
* Grow annual revenues $2 billion or more from products that create energy-efficiency and/or reduce greenhouse gas emissions for its customers, and;
* Introduce at least 1,000 new safety products or services.
