Motor’s award-winning experiential ‘Hyundai Pavilion’ installation, designed by British architect Asif Khan, will once again be on display in Seoul and open to the public. Visitors can learn about Hyundai Motor’s fuel cell technology through three unique experiences; the universe, water and hydrogen.

‘Hyundai Pavilion’ received Bronze Lion at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in the category ’Design: Spatial & Sculptural Installation and Experience’ In June 2018.

“Receiving recognition from such a prestigious awards body is a great honor. Hyundai Pavilion was a project we were very passionate about and it reflects our ongoing commitment to building a creative and evolving design language,” said Sungwon Jee, Director and Head of Creative Works Group at Hyundai Motor Company.

Hyundai Pavilion was situated at a central site in the Olympic Park during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to participate in a sensory experience. The installation was created to bring Hyundai Motor’s brand vision of future mobility into a physical space and convey the story of its innovative fuel cell technology.

The pavilion’s concave exterior walls are finished with black paint. Filled with a cloud of thousands of gleaming LED lamps, it creates a three dimensional illusion of the Universe. Inside the pavilion, an extensive water installation mesmerizes viewers as thousands of water droplets collide and split on a pure white surface, forming a physical representation of hydrogen.

The entire pavilion was designed by architect Asif Khan, who also won the 2014 Cannes Lions ‘Grand Prix’ in the innovation category, for the pavilion he designed at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, making him the first architect to win the prestigious award.

With its new title, ‘The Seed of New Society,’ the pavilion is based at Songwon Art Center in Seoul and will be open from July 20 to December 30. Hyundai Motor redeployed the pavilion in Seoul to provide more opportunities to the public to experience the award winning exhibition.
