Tickets for "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the Arclight Hollywood Go on Sale

Burbank, CA – WEBWIRE

Tickets went on sale last week at the Cinerama Dome for two screenings of “2001: A Space Odyssey” on 70mm film, as part of the upcoming re-release.  Proving the timeless appeal of Stanley Kubrick’s awe-inspiring film, all tickets sold out within a few days.  In response to overwhelming demand, additional tickets go on sale today for the Arclight Hollywood, in 70mm, beginning on May 18.

Widely considered among the greatest films of the 20th century, “2001: A Space Odyssey” was originally released on April 4, 1968, igniting the imaginations of both critics and audiences.  With the film, Kubrick redefined the limits of moviemaking and cemented his legacy as one of the most revolutionary and influential motion picture directors of all time.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the seminal film, Warner Bros. Pictures is releasing an “unrestored” 70mm print of Kubrick’s groundbreaking science fiction epic in select theatres.  A true photochemical film recreation, this print was struck from new printing elements made from the original camera negative.  There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits.  Christopher Nolan, a longtime admirer of the late American auteur, worked closely with the team at Warner Bros. to oversee the mastering process.

Nolan stated, “‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ is one of the greatest and most radical cinematic experiences of all time.  I consider it a great privilege to be involved in offering that experience to a new generation of moviegoers in its original analogue glory.”

“2001: A Space Odyssey” was directed and produced by Kubrick from a screenplay he co-wrote with science fiction writing legend Arthur C. Clarke.  The film starred Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood.

“2001: A Space Odyssey” will also be opening in 70mm on May 18 in New York City, at the Village East Cinema; in San Francisco, at the Castro Theatre; and Chicago, at the Music Box Theatre, and will be expanding to other cities on future dates, to be announced.
