Filmmakers Vie for $1 Million April 11 at AT&T Presents: Untold Stories Live Event

WEBWIRE

Five talented and diverse filmmakers will compete for $1 million on Wednesday, April 11, at the AT&T Presents: Untold Stories’ live pitch event in New York City. Film fans can follow along and catch all the action live starting at 9 a.m. ET on the Tribeca Film Institute’s Facebook page.

The winner not only will receive a check for $1 million to help produce his or her film, but also the chance to debut it at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.

AT&T and Tribeca, along with the year-round nonprofit Tribeca Film Institute, launched Untold Stories in 2017. Our alliance created Untold Stories to help underrepresented filmmakers.

The 5 filmmakers will present their story ideas and film scripts to a Greenlight Committee that includes AT&T Chief Brand Officer Fiona Carter and several distinguished film experts, including:

  • Alexander Dinelaris, an Academy Award and Golden Globe winner for the screenplay of “Birdman.”
  • Alfre Woodard, a Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress. Her work includes the critically acclaimed “12 Years a Slave” and “Cross Creek,” which earned her a nomination for an Oscar.
  • Griffin Dunne, an accomplished actor, director and producer. Dunne directed “Addicted to Love” and “Practical Magic,” among others.
  • Lisa Cortés, an Academy Award–nominated producer whose credits include “Precious,” “The Woodsman” and “Shadowboxer.”
  • Ilana Glazer, a comedian, writer and actress best known for co-creating, co-starring in, and co-writing the Comedy Central series “Broad City.”

AT&T and Tribeca will announce the winning filmmaker later that day at an event celebrating inclusivity in storytelling.

The winner will then create his or her film project using the $1 million. AT&T and Tribeca will also help with awards submissions, qualifying screenings, advertisements and promotion of the film.

The film will premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival and will run across AT&T’s video platform.

But it doesn’t stop there. AT&T will also provide a grant of $10,000 each to the other 4 participating filmmakers to help achieve their respective film goals.
