JNTO Launches Japan Tourism Statistics Website

WEBWIRE

JNTO has launched a new website offering free, in-depth statistical data on Japan tourism to all users.

Ever wanted to know which country/regions send the most overseas visitors to Japan? Or which prefectures of Japan overseas visitors visit? Or what they spend their money on when they are there?

Launched a new website by JNTO offers users the opportunity to discover the answers to all these questions and more, compiling a variety of statistical data related to tourism to and from Japan and around the world, from the number of overseas visitors to Japan to the percentage of visitors by prefecture and travel expenditure amounts.

The website’s data set includes data on a wide range of aspects of tourism, including visitor arrival trends, visitor rate rankings and number of guests at accommodations by prefecture, trends and breakdowns in trips to Japan by type of travel, booking method, length of stay and so on, and travel spending.

It allows users to select specific countries or regions and create and download customized graphs and charts containing information to suit their needs. It is hoped that it will be utilised by a wide range of users, from media personnel in search of facts and figures for articles to researchers conducting surveys and research for business or academic purposes.

The Japan Tourism Statistics website can be accessed at https://statistics.jnto.go.jp

Features of the Japan Tourism Statistics Website

The new website has three key features that are useful for users. Firstly, it allows users to generate customized graphs and charts of the data they are looking for according to their needs. Whether it is figures on the number of overseas visitors to Japan or travel consumption trends, users can find and sort the data they are looking for according to year, country/region, purpose of visit and so on.

Secondly, users can download and freely use the graphs and charts they have created on the website. By filling in a simple application form, users can gain permission to use the graphs and charts they have created and downloaded in the public domain for media, survey, research or other purposes and activities.

Thirdly, the website also contains data on global inbound tourism - such as visitor arrivals, travel spending, and the number of Japanese visitors to overseas destinations - enabling users to compare and contrast data on Japan with other countries/regions around the world, thereby gaining a better understanding of global tourism trends as well as the global position of tourism in Japan.

Users can choose to download the charts or graphs they have created in either CSV or PDF format. The data used in the website has been sourced from JNTO, JTA (Japan Tourism Agency), and UNWTO (United Nations World Trade Organisation).
