Thai Union’s Yellowfin Tuna Slices™ Wins Top Award at Boston’s Seafood Expo North America

Yellowfin Tuna Slices™, the newest seafood innovation from Thai Union’s Global Innovation Incubator (GII), has recently received the 2018 Seafood Excellence Award in the Best New Foodservice Product category at Boston’s Seafood Expo.

The pre-seasoned, ready-to-eat tuna slices, made from whole yellowfin tuna loins, has been voted the best new foodservice product by a panel of seafood experts. It beat the other three finalists to win the award due to its uniqueness and appropriateness to the market, taste, packaging, convenience, nutritional value and originality.

Now being rolled out across the US market under the Chicken of the Sea® brand, Yellowfin Tuna Slices™ was developed to provide restaurants and deli counters with a convenient alternative to traditional lunch meats for sandwiches, salads, wraps and other culinary delights.

This healthy product line was created by GII in response to the FDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020, which challenges consumers of all ages to increase their seafood consumption to a minimum of two servings per week.

Additionally, GII won the International Innovation Award 2017 from Enterprise Asia for the creation of Yellowfin Tuna Slices in December last year. Yellowfin Tuna Slices™, together with high Omega 3 tuna sausage, a healthy alternative to traditional sausages, are Thai Union’s first two products innovated by GII.

During the Boston seafood expo, Thai Union also presented the progress of its sustainability strategy, SeaChange®, and showcased its seafood products including shrimp and lobster in addition to Yellowfin Tuna Slices™.
