Through mDOC H3, msystems brings plug-and-play access to the latest MLC NAND to the Symbian community

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 16, 2006, msystems (NASDAQ: FLSH), a leader in smart personal storage, today announced that the mDOC H3 embedded flash drive (EFD) has been accredited the “Symbian Approved” mark by Symbian Ltd, the software licensing company that develops and licenses Symbian OS™, the market-leading open operating system for smartphones.

After completing pre-qualifications in Symbian labs, Symbian has approved the mDOC H3, msystems’ embedded flash drive solution for Symbian OS for smooth integration of the latest, most cost-effective raw NAND flash material from major silicon partners. mDOC H3 from msystems is based on more than 17 years of flash expertise, a robust intellectual property portfolio and on technology deployed in millions of tier-one mobile handsets.

Bruce Carney, head of developer marketing, Symbian, said: “The mDOC H3 embedded flash drive from msystems is a key component in supporting the growing memory needs of today’s multimedia phones, which need high-capacity storage for photos, videos, music files and multimedia applications. Now it’s even easier to integrate mDOC H3 into Symbian OS making it more beneficial for the Symbian ecosystem and a better smartphone lifestyle experience for consumers.”

“Now all players in the Symbian ecosystem can easily integrate the latest, most cost-effective NAND flash technology available for smartphones,” said David Tolub, corporate vice president and co-manager of the Mobile Handset Vendor division at msystems. “This validation allows Symbian developers to enjoy the benefits of mDOC H3: multi-source, plug-and-play integration, optimized system performance, high reliability, low power consumption and NOR-less booting capabilities enabling a lower bill of materials.”

The mDOC H3 embedded flash drive, now mass produced in a range of densities up to 1-gigabyte, is available from msystems. The 2-gigabyte mDOC H3 is slated for availability within about a month.
